Marks left by Souls in Purgatory

Below is a photo of the scorched hand mark on the nightshirt of Joseph Leleux, on display at the Piccolo Museum of the Poor Souls in Purgatory in the Chiesa del Sacro Cuore del Suffragio (Church of the Sacred Heart of the Suffrage) in Rome.

The scorched mark was left by the deceased Mrs. Leleux on the sleeve of her son Joseph’s shirt when she appeared to him on the night of June 21, 1789, at Wodecq, Belgium. Her son later related that for 11 consecutive nights, he had been awakened in the night by frightening noises.

On the 12th night, his mother appeared to him to remind him of his duty to have Masses said for her soul in compliance with the terms of a legacy left to him by his father. Then she reproached him for his way of life and beseeched him to change his behavior and to practice his Catholic Faith.

Before she disappeared, she placed her hand on the sleeve of his nightshirt, leaving a clear impression. Joseph Leleux was converted and later founded a pious congregation for the laity.

The Museum of the Purgatory Souls, the collection there is not a work of sacred art, but physical evidence of the existence of Purgatory, ,,left” by suffering souls in Purgatory, who visited to asked their love ones to pray for them.
In 1789, Joseph Leleux, who definitely did not lead a holy life, for 11 consecutive nights he heard some strange noises. Then, on June 21, 1789, he saw his dead mother, who urged him to convert and pray for relatives of the dead. Then she put her hand on his nightgown, burning down on it imprint. Leleux later really changed his life radically and even founded an association for secular Catholics.
✝︎LORD, Almighty God, I am begging You through the Most Precious Blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ, Who poured out abundantly on the cross, most of His Holy Hands and Feet, save the souls from Purgatory, and especially those for whom I am most obliged to pray that I would not be a restraining reason stopping You from accepting the soul into Your glory. May Your Son, Blood flowing from pierced Hands and Feet flow on begging souls with outstretched hands in purgatory. Introduce that soul as soon as possible to heavenly joys, where with Angels will worship You and bless You forever. And give me more faith and Your Spirit so that I will never cease to pray for suffering Souls; with Your permission, let them say that my prayer help. Amen.
