He was one of the seven deacons in the city of Rome, i.e. responsible for the finances and social work of the Church of Rome. According to tradition, when the Roman bishop Sixtus II was arrested and beheaded under the persecutor of Christians, Emperor Valerian (200-260), his deacon Laurentius was distraught that he was not deemedworthy to share this death. Sixtus comforted him with the promise that he would follow him in three days and commissioned him to distribute the church treasury to the suffering and poor. Emperor Valerian laid claim to these treasures. Laurentius asked for three days to think it over and during this time he distributed the Church’s wealth to the poor.  The enraged Valerian had Laurentius tortured and finally ordered him to be slowly martyred to death over a fire on a grate. Even in this terrible torture, he kept his sense of humour and teased the executioner to turn him over on the fire, because the roast was already cooked on one side. Laurentius is one of the most venerated saints of the Church and was given almost the importance of Peter and Paul.  The church of S. Lorenzo fuori le Mura ( meaning outside the walls) was built over his grave in 330 by Emperor Constantine (285-337) and is one of 5 minor papal basilicas. It is also one of the 7 pilgrim churches in Rome.    There are some 30 churches in Rome named after St. His commemoration day is the day of his death 10 August. At this time in the annual vegetation cycle, the phase of grape ripening begins. The winegrowers offer their first grapes to him on this day. The St. Laurent variety is also named after him. Shooting stars on August nights are called “Laurentius tears”. Subscribe for our FREE Newsletter Submit You have been successfully Subscribed! Ops! Something went wrong, please try again. Take it from my lips into Your Divine Heart. Improve and complete it so much that it brings as much honor and joy to the Trinity as You granted it on earth with this prayer. May these pour upon Your Holy Humanity in Glorification to Your Painful Wounds and the Precious Blood that You spilled from them. First Prayer: The Circumcision Pray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the first wounds, the first pains, and the first Bloodshed as atonement for my and all of humanity’s sins of youth, as protection against the first mortal sin, especially among my relatives. Amen Second Prayer: The Suffering on the Mount of OlivesPray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the terrifying suffering of Jesus’ Heart on the Mount of Olives and every drop of His bloody sweat as atonement for my and all of humanity’s sins of the heart, as protection against such sins and for the spreading of Divine and brotherly Love. Amen Third Prayer: The FloggingPray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the many thousands of wounds, the gruesome pains, and the Precious Blood of the flogging as atonement for my and all of humanity’s sins of the flesh, as protection against such sins and for the preservation of innocence, especially among my relatives. Amen Fourth Prayer: The Crowning of ThornsPray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the wounds, the pains, and the Precious Blood of Jesus’ holy head from the crowning with thorns as atonement for my and all of humanity’s sins of the Spirit, as protection against such sins and the spreading of Christ’s kingdom here on earth. Amen Fifth Prayer: The Carrying of the CrossPray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the sufferings on the way of the Cross, especially His holy wound on His shoulder and its Precious Blood as atonement for my and all of humanity’s rebellion against the cross, every grumbling against Your holy arrangements and all other sins of the tongue, as protection against such sins and for true love of the cross. Amen Sixth Prayer: The CrucifixionPray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You Your Son on the Cross, His nailing and raising, His wounds on the hands and feet and the three streams of His Precious Blood that poured forth from these for us, His extreme tortures of the Body and Soul, His precious death and its non-bleeding renewal in all Holy Masses on earth as atonement for all wounds against vows and regulations within the Orders, as reparation for my and all of the world’s sins, for the sick and the dying, for all holy priests and laymen, for the Holy Father’s intentions toward the restoration of Christian families, for the strengthening of faith, for our country and unity among all nations in Christ and His Church, as well as for the diaspora. Amen Seventh Prayer: The Piercing of Jesus’ SidePray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, accept as worthy, for the needs of the Holy Church and as atonement for the sins of all mankind, the Precious Blood and Water which poured forth from the wound of Jesus’ Divine Heart. Be gracious and merciful toward us. Amen Blood of Christ, the last precious content of His Holy Heart, wash me of all my and others’ guilt of sin!Water from the Side of Christ, wash me clean of all punishments for sin and extinguish the flames of purgatory for me and for all the poor souls. Amen [There is theological dispute over accuracy of some of the following promises. Jesus, however, will not be outdone in generosity if you pray these prayers daily from the heart for 12 years.] The Magnificent Promises of the 12 Years Prayers1. The soul who prays them will suffer no purgatory.2. The soul who prays them will be accepted among the martyrs as though he had spilled his blood for his faith.3. The soul who prays them can choose three others whom Jesus will then keep in a state of grace sufficient to become holy.4. No one in the four successive generations of the soul who prays them will be lost.5. The soul who prays them will be made conscious of his death one month in advance. * If the soul praying these prayers dies before the entire 12 years of prayers have been completed, the Lord will accept them as having been prayed in their entirety, because the intention of the soul was to complete them as directed. By Patricia Brower Jesus tells us that Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as exquisitely as the lilies of the field.  Jesus reminds us in times like these we should not worry or be anxious.  With all the trials and tribulations in this world it is tempting for us to worry about what we will eat and drink.  But God is not a passive watcher over the world nor our lives.  Jesus asks us to take pause to consider the lilies. We can imagine Jesus walking with his disciples near the field of lilies.  The beautiful wildflowers that grow on the side of hills or in fields.  And he uses the moment to teach his followers about how close He is to His creation.  And He wants us to reconsider the amount of worry we put into what we will eat and wear tomorrow.  Jesus says look at the beauty of the lilies in the field.  And he exclaims, not even King Solomon was dressed in such fine clothing.   We also know from 1 Kings 7:19 that the Temple that Solomon built for the Lord had two pillars at the front of it that were topped with lilies.  And so the reference to the beauty of the lilies has an additional spiritual meaning.  Just as Solomon’s Temple was headed by the lilies, so is the Body of Christ “headed” by the symbolic lily which is the Will of God.We will easily become overwhelmed if we worry about money and work, and the toils of this world.  And Jesus reminds us to “consider the lilies” which neither do not labor or worry.  By being so close to the Lord they are magnificently beautiful and arrayed with the finest “clothing”.  And so it is for us if we trust in the Providence of God in our life.   For further reflection, consider listening to “Lilies of the Field” by Father John Michael Talbot Subscribe for our FREE Newsletter Submit You have been successfully Subscribed! The Divine Marriage and The Assumption of Mary

Over the last five years there has been a great confusion in our world regarding the definition of woman and gender. Famed Lutheran Swiss psychiatrist believed that the greatest religious even in the over 400 years was the Papal Announcement of the dogma of the Assumption which took place in 1950. Perhaps by giving praise to God for the Assumption of Our Lady we can help nourish the proper respect that is due to woman in the design and love of God. And perhaps it will be through the Age of Mary that confusion of gender will disappear. We are certainly blessed to have had the Church confirm this rich Dogma regarding our Blessed Mother. It is no small honor for Our Lady to have been assumed body and soul into heaven with her Divine Son. In continuity with the Immaculate Conception – the Assumption is the reward and the affirmation of Our lady as having been born without original sin and having been full of grace from her creation. Not only was her body incorrupt, Our Lady was assumed into heaven and crowned Queen. The Heavenly bride is united with her Groom in heaven, completing in some way the Divine Marriage.    Blessed is the Mother of God, who has done the Will of the Father. Mary, indeed, is blessed among all women. Let the world acknowledge the greatness of Mary so that woman can again regain her dignity. Jesus is proud to announce loudly to the world that his Mother was honored with her Assumption into Heaven. As the Mother of the Son, Daughter of the Father, and Spouse of the Holy Spirit, Mary is honored by Heaven. Our Lady’s body was not allowed to be corrupted by nor buried under the earth. Mary, blessed are you among woman. You are the model of virtue for all the world. Mary’s glorified body is a magnificent Temple of the Holy Spirit. In 1950 Pope Pius XII declared: “We proclaim and define it to be a dogma revealed by God that the immaculate Mother of God, Mary ever virgin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven.” All of heaven and earth rejoice. God has favored Our Lady with unique affection. Subscribe for our FREE Newsletter Submit You have been successfully Subscribed! Ops! Something went wrong, please try again. The World is Being Tormented By Evil, And It Knows There Is A Great Change Coming

Help us usher in the kingdom of peace which you have promised to so many Saints and holy ones. We want the Era of Peace to come so quickly to this lost world. Help us each submit to Your Holy with obedient acceptance and humility. We read in the book “Sinu Jesu” that each of us plays a part in helping usher in the kingdom of peace. The Lord tells us that the secret of ushering in the time of peace is for souls to submit themselves more and more to the will of God. “If more souls would give Me this freedom to act as I will, My Church would begin to know the springtime of holiness that is My burning desire for her. These souls, by their entire submission to all the dispositions of My providence, will be the ones to usher in My kingdom of peace and holiness on earth.” The Kingdom of God begins in each of our hearts and with our submission daily, moment by moment to God’s will in our lives. Each day it seems we see the world getting worse. But as sin increases so does God’s grace. Jesus calls us to not be afraid but to consecrate ourselves to Him. Blessed Conchita prophesied about this age in the word: ” This last stage of the world belongs very specially to Him that He be honored and exalted. May the Church preach Him, may souls love Him, may the whole world be consecrated to Him, and peace will come along with a moral and spiritual reaction, greater than the evil by which the world is tormented…” Sensitive souls can feel that there is a big change around the corner.  St. Louis de Montfort spoke about our time and said that even the insensitive can feel the world groaning for change.  Nature is calling out for a new coming of the Holy Spirit.  St. Louis de Montfort says this grounding of the world is similar to what was sensed at the time just before Jesus came to the Earth: “All creatures, even the most insensitive, lie groaning under the burden of Babylon’s countless sins and plead with you to come and renew all things: omnis creatura ingemiscit, etc., the whole creation is groaning.”   Luisa Picaretta talks about this sense that the Earth has that something great is about to happen: “The world is exactly at the same point as when I was about to come upon earth. All were awaiting a great event, a New Era, as indeed occurred. The same now; since the great event, the New Era in which the Will of God may be done on earth as It is in Heaven, [1] is coming [2] – everyone is awaiting this New Era, tired of the present one, but without knowing what this new thing, this change is about, just as they did not know it when I came upon earth. This expectation is a sure sign that the hour is near.” We live in incredible times.  Yes, the darkness is increasing but we are called to be great Saints.  The secret to great holiness is not about doing great things, but about being very little.  Let us pray for an increase of humility and trust in the Will of God.  We can usher in the Era of Peace promised by Mary by learning to live our lives in complete abandonment to His Will.  The time of grace will soon turn into the “time of secrets” promised by Our Lady and Medjugorje.  The way to prepare is to trust more and more in the Wisdom of His plans for our lives and the world.  His will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. As one sick, I come to the Physician of life, unclean, to the fountain of Mercy blind to the light of eternal splendor, poor and needy to the Lord of heaven and earth. Therefore, I beg of You through Your infinite mercy and generosity, heal my weakness, wash my uncleanness, give light to my blindness, enrich my poverty and clothe my nakedness. May I thus receive the Bread of Angels the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, with such reverence and humility contrition and devotion, purity and faith, purpose and intention as shall aid my soul’s salvation. Grant, I beg of You that I receive not only the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, but also, its full grace and power. Give me the grace most merciful God, to receive the Body of Your only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, born of the Virgin Mary in such a manner that I may deserve to be intimately united with His mystical Body and to be numbered among His members. Most loving Father, grant that I may behold for all eternity, face to face , Your beloved Son whom now on my pilgrimage, I am about to receive under the sacramental veil, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God world without end. Amen. St. Thomas studied in Paris and Cologne and became and acclaimed scholar and theological advisor to the papal court . His fellow students at first nicknamed him the ‘dumb ox’ because he was a heavy set man with a quiet manner. This great teacher and Doctor of the church, once wrote that in the sacrament of the Eucharist, Christ preaches an ‘unrivaled’ humility which disdains no dwelling but consents to come like a guest to any heart even one that is defiled. In keeping with his own admirable reverence for our Lord, St. Thomas also said that no one should approach Our Lord in communion without reverent devotion and fervent love, without the repentance or without recalling the mystery of our Lord’s Redemption. We should all be as dumb as this ‘dumb ox’. It is indeed telling that such a towering figure as St. Thomas could be so filled with the spirit of Christ as to approach him as he says in this prayer as one sick, unclean, blind, poor and needy asking for our Lord’s Grace for Holiness in His presence. Another expression of a prayer before Holy Communion by St. Thomas Aquinas. I thank you Lord God, Almighty Father, despite my unworthiness by Your mercy alone, you desire to admit me into the most sacred Body of Your only begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. I beg you gracious Father that this Holy Communion be not an occasion of punishment for my soul, but a healthy intercession for forgiveness, be an armour for my faith, shield for my good will, death of all my vices, extermination of all my carnal appetites, increased charity, patience, true humility and all virtues, a perfect stillness of my body and my spirit, a firm defence against all enemies visible and invisible, strength in temptations, perpetual union with you alone my true Lord and God, a happy and blissful death. I beg You to take me a sinner to that ineffable invitation where You with Your Son and the Holy Spirit and your Saints dwell in true light, sanctification, fulfilled and lasting joy and perfect happiness. By Bella Francis Luisa Piccarreta was an Italian mystic and author known as the “Little Daughter of the Divine Will.” She was born in Corato, province of Bari, Italy on April 23, 1865, the first Sunday after Easter (later known as Divine Mercy Sunday). Her parents, Vito Nicola Piccarreta and Rosa Tarantino were practicing Catholics and Luisa was baptised in the local parish Church that same evening. She received her first Holy Communion at age nine and often remained in prayer and adoration for hours before the Most Blessed Sacrament in her parish Church of Santa Maria Greca. At age eleven she consecrated herself to the Blessed Virgin and thus became a “daughter of Mary”, and with great fervor she spread devotion to the heavenly Mother among the girls of her neighborhood. Devotion to Mary was one of the fundamental characteristics of her spirituality,  and later in life she wrote a book of meditation on Our Lady entitled “The Virgin Mary in the Kingdom of the Divine Will”.  She received only a first grade education, and was called to serve our Lord as a victim soul at the tender age of 16. While at home at age 13, Luisa heard an uproar on the street, and she went out to the balcony to see what was happening. There a terrible vision appeared before her eyes: the street was crowded with shouting people and with armed soldiers who were leading three prisoners. Among these, Luisa recognized Jesus, carrying the cross on His shoulders. With deep sorrow and terror, Luisa contemplated this sad procession, but when the Divine Convict was under her balcony, He raised His head and said to her:  “Anima, aiutami!” (“Soul, help me!”). At this scene, Luisa cried out and immediately lost her senses. This extraordinary event marked for Luisa a decisive turning point in her life, because on that day she accepted the call to become a victim of expiation for the sins of humanity. The sufferings which she accepted upon herself lessened the pains of others, including souls in purgatory, and helped bring about conversions. In addition, Luisa’s state of victimhood provided an outlet for the Justice of the Lord, thus reducing the chastisements upon humanity. St. Annibale Di Francia,  her spiritual director wrote that the prayers, sufferings and tears of Luisa had mitigated many  divine chastisements described or foretold in her Diary. After she accepted her state of victim, Luisa was often drawn into a state of complete unconsciousness: her body would stiffen, becoming hard like stone, to the point that no one, even when joined together, was able to move her. Each morning Luisa would be found stiff and in a unmovable position. This phenomenon was misunderstood by her family and those who knew her.  However, her parents were immensely worried, who subjected her to visits by doctors, who were unable to make any diagnosis. Her family then turned in desperation to the local priests and after being blessed,  Luisa immediately regained her normal faculties, her lucid state and her state of immobility.  The humiliations and the sufferings which Luisa had to bear during this period were unspeakable. She was misunderstood by most, considered proud, false, a cheater, and a person who wanted to draw attention upon herself. Most painfully for Luisa, these accusations were also shared by her parents at times. But the most terrible humiliations she received were from some priests, who completely misjudged the frequent ecstatic state of Luisa. When they were called by her family in order to free her from her usual state of immobility, they would refuse to go; and if they did go, they would often overwhelm her with the most bitter reproaches. Once they left her in that state for as long as twenty-five days. Luisa expressed to her parents her desire to become a cloistered nun. Her parents were absolutely opposed to the idea. Luisa kept insisting, so one day her mother took her to the cloistered nuns at Trani, where they met with the Mother Superior. But her mother, not wanting her little Luisa to cloister herself in a monastery, revealed to the Mother Superior,  in detail all the defects and the strange phenomena surrounding her daughter, adding that she was a sickly girl of weak constitution. Obviously, these details provoked a definitive refusal on the part of the Superior, who immediately dismissed her, saying that life in the monastery was very hard, and that her frail health would not allow her to enter the religious life. Luisa returned to Corato with her heart full of sadness and she immediately poured out her sorrow to Jesus:  “Had You not promised me that I would become a nun?” And the Lord answered:You will be a nun, but the true little nun of my Heart. You will remain cloistered in a room, without ever moving, in which you will pray, suffer, and be always with Me.” And so, it happened as Jesus promised. Luisa remained in her room nailed to her bed of suffering for almost seventy years. During her early years, Luisa experienced her first visions (Luisa calls them dreams) of the evil spirit, who terrorized her frequently, making her very frightened. She tried to conquer her fears by hiding behind her bed, or seeking refuge in the arms of her mother, in which she felt safe. She soon learned to turn to God in prayer, and beseeched the Blessed Virgin Mary for protection. Our Blessed Mother soon responded to the prayers of little Luisa. One day, being once again assailed and terrorized by the evil spirit, Luisa turned to…

We are living in the time of Mercy which is prior to the time of Justice.  Our Lord revealed Himself to Sister Faustina to ask that the Church pray and ask for His Mercy to fill the world. When we ask for God’s Mercy to come upon the world – we ask for even more than forgiveness, we are asking for God to fulfill His covenant Promise to Israel, His Beloved ones.In these time there is a yearning that can be heard from the Church for the world to be saved. The Church and the world is experiencing an emptiness, and we are, in our sinfulness, asking that God hear our cries to take us out of the Egypt of sin that we have created. Our Lord revealed the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the simple phrase, For the Sake of His Sorrowful Passion, Have Mercy on Us and on the Whole world. In this prayer we are asking that by Mercy we may have our hearts renewed rather than by justice, which God is holding back. This time of Mercy is a great gift to the Church. It is a great gift to the World. We have gone astray and we have the choice of either coming back to him through His Mercy or through His Justice. God the Father has granted a period of Mercy to the world in which we can ask for the world to be transformed by Merciful love rather than Justice. “You will prepare the world for My final coming. Speak to the world about My mercy… It is a sign for the end times. After it will come the Day of Justice.” Jesus to St. Faustina  When we look at the state of our souls, and at the state of the world we might be tempted to think that our sins and the sins of the world are too great. We may be tempted to feel overwhelmed and lost – or feel like evil is winning. When we turn to God we are reminded by St. Faustina to turn to the Mercy of God and allow Him to change us and to love us.It is in calling out for Mercy that God hears us and will respond to our cry for help. God desires us to pray and to ask, and primarily He desires us to trust in His Love and Mercy and to call upon Him for help. In praying to God and asking for His Mercy to come, we are crying out with the very cry of the Holy Spirit. “I realize more and more how much every soul needs God’s mercy throughout life and particularly at the hour of death. This chaplet (of Divine Mercy) mitigates God’s anger, as He Himself told me.” (No. 1036)” – Saint Faustina We have heard through the words of various seers that we are living in times worse that Sodom and Gomorrah and worse than the time of the Flood. The difference is that we have recourse to the Sacraments and to Divine Grace. Sister Faustina says that we can mitigate and lessen the wrath of Divine Justice. As the Angel stand with his flaming sword we can respond with Penance and prayers for Mercy to fill the earth.  Subscribe for our FREE Newsletter Submit You have been successfully Subscribed! Ops! The Assumption is especially notable, for it detailed account of the translation of the body of the Blessed Virgin into heaven, an account, he affirms is based on the most reliable and ancient tradition. This discourse is cited by Pope Pius XII on November 1, 1950 in his definition of the Assumption of the Blessed Mother of God into heaven  as a Dogma of faith . San Juan Damasceno is also known as St. John Damascene .  He was born in Damascus, Syria, around 675, at a time when the Mideast was rapidly changing. The power and culture of the Greeks and Romans had come to an end. The Muslims conquered Damascus in 635 and the city had been under Muslim rule for forty years.St. John was born into an upper-class Christian family and he was raised in the faith. He was extremely well educated in theology, philosophy, and science under the guidance of a monk from Sicily who had been captured and brought as a prisoner to Syria. He gained fluency in Greek and Arabic. His father, although a Christian, was a high-ranking financial officer who raised taxes for the Muslim caliphs.  St. John succeeded his father as finance minister or “grand vizier” to the caliph of Damascus. He was widely respected for his competence, fairness, and humility. His work ended abruptly in the year 700 when the Muslims shifted their policies toward Christians. He resigned, distributed his wealth, and became a monk at the monastery of St. Sabas in the desert on the outskirts of Jerusalem at the age of 25.St. John spent his time in prayer and contemplation, study and writing. He was a prolific author and wrote on a wide range of topics  addressing philosophy, heresies, and orthodox theology. THIS IS HOW THE VIRGIN MARY DIED ACCORDING TO SAN JUAN DAMASCENO, DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH “The Mother of God did not die of illness, because she did not have to receive the punishment of illness, because she had no original sin. She did not die of old age, because she did not have to grow old, since the punishment for the sin of the first parents did not come to her:  She died of love, a deep desire to go to heaven to unite with her Son. After Our Lord’s ascension into heaven, some 14 years later, the Virgin Mary summoned the apostles for her departure from this world into eternity.  Her life on earth was complete after having spent time teaching the religion of the Savior to young and old,  comforted so many sad people and helped so many sick and dying. The Apostles loved her as the kindest of all mothers, and they hastened to travel to receive from her maternal lips her last counsel, and from her sacrosanct hands her last blessing. They arrived, and with copious tears, and on their knees, they kissed those holy hands that had so many times blessed them.  For each one of them, the exalted Lady had words of comfort and hope. And then, like someone who falls asleep, she departed for eternity. The news spread throughout the city, and there was not a Christian who did not come to mourn her passing just as they would have grieved the loss of their own mother. Her burial looked more like an Easter procession than a funeral. Everyone sang the Hallelujah with the strongest hope that they now had a most powerful Protector in heaven, to intercede for each one of Jesus’ disciples. Very soft but strong aromas were felt in the air, and each one seemed to hear very soft harmonies of music. Thomas the Apostle, had not been able to arrive on time for the burial of the Blessed Mother. Thomas said to Peter “You cannot deny me the great favour of being able to go to the tomb of my most loving mother and give one last kiss to those holy hands that blessed me so many times. Peter agreed.  As the disciples approached the Holy Sepulcher, and when they were close they began to feel again very aromas in the environment and harmonious music in the air. They opened the tomb and instead of seeing the body of the Virgin they only found a great quantity of very beautiful flowers. Jesus Christ had come, He had raised His Blessed Mother and taken her to heaven. This was St. John Damascene’s theological interpretation of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Let us prayAlmighty ever living God, who assumed the Immaculate Virgin Mary,  the Mother of Your Son, body and soul into heavenly glory, grant we pray that, always attentive to the things that are above, we may merit to be sharers of her glory.  Through Our Lord Jesus Christ Your Son, who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God,  for ever and ever, Amen.
