Reading between the lines of this article labeling the rosary as ‘an extremism symbol’, the devil is in the details, so to speak. The hidden agenda (among other evil things) is that they loathe the peaceful recitation of the rosary at abortion sites. The Atlantic contributor concluded his article with a warning “cemented in common causes such as hostility toward abortion-rights advocates.” The bottom line is that Catholicism is despised for upholding that abortion, homosexuality and assisted suicide, to name a few, is sinful and evil. The catholic faith expresses love for the sinner, not the act. When the truth does not align with evil strategies and agendas, the evil doers resort to choose to twist and distort by throwing verbiage around, concocting ideas and attempting to incite fear. It is the devil’s workshop. Rather than stooping to respond to downright stupidity, unintelligible rhetoric, let’s take the approach to clarify, dumb it down that the Rosary is a prayer. A prayer of love and humility. The Rosary beads have no gun powder, no toxic content to physically hurt anyone. It is just a device to count prayers while reflecting on the mysteries of the faith. The capuchin priest and saint, St. Padre Pio called it a weapon for these times. We are encouraged to recite the daily rosary for protection against the evil forces of secularism that constantly drums in the media that good is evil and evil is good. The rosary is a common sight in Catholic churches and homes. Catholics were not the first to pray with beads. Men and women of many faiths and cultures like Buddhists, Hindus and more use beads in prayer. Power of the Rosary The Rosary has been associated with notable miracles and healings. It has been attributed to victories in war. In 1571, a great naval war took place between a coalition of some catholic countries comprising Spain and parts of Italy against the Ottoman Empire. The intent was to wipe out Christianity. The Christians banded together, turned to Mary, invoked the Rosary, and were saved. The battle took place just off the coast of Greece at a place known as Lepanto. The battle of Lepanto, the most important naval contest in human history, saved the Christian West from defeat at the hands of the Ottoman Turks. Pope Pius V called on all of Europe to pray the rosary for victory. These prayers were answered, with the Christian forces defeating the much larger Ottoman forces. To commemorate the victory, Pius V established the feast day of “Our Lady of Lepanto” –– also known as Our Lady of Victory or Our Lady of the Rosary. All the more, let us pray the rosary with much fervor and reverence to protect us from the forces of evil. PLACE yourself before God. 2. Ask Him to inspire your heart. Considerations 1. God did not bring you into the world because He had any need of you, useless as you are; but solely that He might show forth His Goodness in you, giving you His Grace and Glory. And to this end He gave you understanding that you might know Him, memory that you might think of Him, a will that you might love Him, imagination that you might realise His mercies, sight that you might behold the marvels of His works, speech that you might praise Him, and so on with all your other faculties. 2. Being created and placed in the world for this intent, all contrary actions should be shunned and rejected, as also you should avoid as idle and superfluous whatever does not promote it. 2. Consider how unhappy they are who do not think of all this, who live as though they were created only to build and plant, to heap up riches and amuse themselves with trifles. Affections and Resolutions 1. Humble yourself in that hitherto you have so little thought upon all this. Alas, my God, of what was I thinking when I did not think of Thee? what did I remember when I forgot Thee? what did I love when I loved Thee not? Alas, when I ought to have been feeding on the truth, I was but filling myself with vanity, and serving the world, which was made to serve me. 2. Abhor your past life. I renounce ye, O vain thoughts and useless cogitations, frivolous and hateful memories: I renounce all worthless friendships, all unprofitable efforts, and miserably ungrateful self-indulgence, all pitiful compliances. 3. Turn to God. Thou, my God and Saviour shalt henceforth be the sole object of my thoughts; no more will I give my mind to ideas which are displeasing to Thee. All the days of my life I will dwell upon the greatness of Thy Goodness, so lovingly poured out upon me. Thou shalt be henceforth the delight of my heart, the resting-place of all my affections. From this time forth I will forsake and abhor the vain pleasures and amusements, the empty pursuits which have absorbed my time; the unprofitable ties which have bound my heart I will loosen henceforth, and to that end I will use such and such remedies. Conclusion 1. Thank God, Who has made you for so gracious an end. Thou hast made me, O Lord, for Thyself, that I may eternally enjoy the immensity of Thy Glory; when shall I be worthy thereof, when shall I know how to bless Thee as I ought? 2. Offer. O Dearest Lord, I offer Thee all my affections and resolutions, with my whole heart and soul. 3. Pray. I entreat Thee, O God, that Thou wouldest accept my desires and longings, and give Thy Blessing to my soul, to enable me to fulfil them, through the Merits of Thy Dear Son’s Precious Blood shed upon the Cross for me. PLACE yourself in the Presence of God. 2. Ask Him to inspire your heart. Considerations 1. Consider that but a few years since you were not born into the world, and your soul was as yet non-existent. Where wert thou then, O my soul? the world was already old, and yet of thee there was no sign. 2. God brought you out of this nothingness, in order to make you what you are, not because He had any need of you, but solely out of His Goodness. 3. Consider the being which God has given you; for it is the foremost being of this visible world, adapted to live eternally, and to be perfectly united to God’s Divine Majesty. Affections and Resolutions 1. Humble yourself utterly before God, saying with the Psalmist, O Lord, I am nothing in respect of Thee, what am I, that Thou shouldst remember me? O my soul, thou wert yet lost in that abyss of nothingness, if God had not called thee forth, and what of thee in such a case? 2. Give God thanks. O Great and Good Creator, what do I not owe Thee, Who didst take me from out that nothingness, by Thy Mercy to make me what I am? How can I ever do enough worthily to praise Thy Holy Name, and render due thanks to Thy Goodness? 3. Confess your own shame. But alas, O my Creator, so far from uniting myself to Thee by a loving service, I have rebelled against Thee through my unruly affections, departing from Thee, and giving myself up to sin, and ignoring Thy Goodness, as though Thou hadst not created me. 4. Prostrate thyself before God. O my soul, know that the Lord He is thy God, it is He that hath made thee, and not thou thyself. O God, I am the work of Thy Hands; henceforth I will not seek to rest in myself, who am nought. Wherein hast thou to glory, who art but dust and ashes? how canst thou, a very nothing, exalt thyself? In order to my own humiliation, I will do such and such a thing, “I will endure such contempt: “I will alter my ways and henceforth follow my Creator, and realise that I am honoured by His calling me to the being He has given; I will employ it solely to obey His Will, by means of the teaching He has given me, of which I will inquire more through my spiritual Father. Conclusion 1. Thank God. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and praise His Holy Name with all thy being, because His Goodness called me forth from nothingness, and His Mercy created me. 2. Offer. O my God, I offer Thee with all my heart the being Thou hast given me, I dedicate and consecrate it to Thee. 3. Pray. O God, strengthen me in these affections and resolutions. Dear Lord, I commend me, and all those I love, to Thy never failing Mercy. OUR FATHER, etc. At the end of your meditation linger a while, and gather, so to say, a little spiritual bouquet from the thoughts you have dwelt upon, the sweet perfume whereof may refresh you through the day. Summoning The Supernatural Help Of Angels

Summoning The Supernatural Help Of Angels “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”  (John 1:51) Angels are mentioned at least 108 times in the Tanakh (Old Testament) and 165 times in the Brit Chadashah (New Testament).  What do angels do and are they still active in our lives today? Let’s find out. What and Who Are Angels? “Praise the LORD, you his angels [malakh is Hebrew for angel], you mighty ones who do His bidding, who obey His word.”  (Psalm 36:16; see also Psalm 103:20–21) The angels we see in movies or read in books perhaps only serve to confuse us about their true nature.  On the other hand, these presentations may also serve to open a dialogue so that a person has the opportunity to hear what the Bible says about angels and the Good News of Yeshua (Jesus). God created angels in a variety of forms and ranks for the purpose of serving. Because of their supernatural nature, it is easy to think that angels possess a god-like quality—yet that is not accurate. “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?”  (Hebrews 1:14; see also Psalm 34:7; 91:11–12; Daniel 6:22) The Guardian of Paradise (1889), by Franz Von Stuck The grandeur, power, and mystery of angels makes it tempting to worship them, even though we know that worship of anything other than God is a violation of the First Commandment. We see this, perhaps, when the most beloved Jewish disciple of Yeshua, John, had a vision of the Marriage of the Lamb and of the crystal clear water of life flowing from the throne of God in the New Heaven and Earth.  When John fell at the feet of the angel that revealed these things, the angel rebuked him: “[The angel] said to me, ‘Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Yeshua; worship God.  For the testimony of Yeshua is the spirit of prophecy.”  (Revelation 19:10; see also Revelation 22:8–9) Let’s now look at how angels are used in God’s service for Himself and for us. John the Evangelist on Patmos, (17th c.) by Jacopo Vignali (1592-1664), depicting John receiving revelation from an angel. Angels Reveal Prophecy In the Hebrew Scriptures, angels play key roles in interpreting prophetic visions, just as we see in the Book of Revelation. The angel Gabriel, for instance, revealed the exact timing of the coming of the Messiah to the prophet Daniel (Daniel 9:20–27) as well as the work of the anti-Messiah in “the distant future” (Daniel 8:15–27). In Zechariah 1:9–5:11, angels walk the prophet through his visions, explaining and teaching him, what each vision meant. The Annunciation, by Henry Ossawa Tanner, depicting the Angel Gabriel’s announcement to Miriam (Mary) that she would conceive and become the mother of Yeshua (Jesus). Angels Deliver Messages Another duty of angels is to bring messages.  In fact, in Hebrew, the word “angel” has no equivalent.  The closest word for angels in modern Hebrew is malakhim (מַלְאָכִים), which means messengers. Messenger angels occupy a unique rank in that they often appear in the form of men, as opposed to winged cherubim and seraphim. Malakhim (angels) have appeared to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moses.  Isaiah mentions the Malakh Panav, the Angel of God’s Presence. The angel Gabriel gave to Miryam (Mary) this message of prophetic fulfillment: “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.  You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Yeshua.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.  The Lord God will give him the throne of His father David, and He will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; His kingdom will never end.”  (Luke 1:29–33; see also Isaiah 7:14) Angels Minister “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?”  (Hebrews 1:14) Hebrews 1:14 tells us that malakhim are “ministering spirits” sent forth to minister to those “who will be heirs of salvation.” The messages that angels send on behalf of God are two-fold.  Not only do they reveal His plans for their lives, they also serve to minister in times of dire distress. For instance, an angel baked bread for Elijah when he was hiding out in a cave and wanted to die (1 Kings 19:3–6). As well, when Sarah’s maidservant Hagar thought she was about to die, crying out to the Lord, she and Ishmael sat alone in the wilderness with no food or water. The angel of God (malakh Elohim) appeared to relieve her distress saying, “Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there.  Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.”  (Genesis 21:18) This message is also a tremendous prophecy, as Ishmael became the father of the Arab nations. Angels also ministered to Yeshua (Jesus) during his 40 days of fasting in the wilderness and subsequent temptation by Satan (Mark 1:13). Hagar and the Angel in the Desert, by James Tissot Angels Worship God Angels not only minister to humans, they minister to God through their worship of Him. Isaiah saw Seraphim above God, “each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.  And one called out to another and said, ‘Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD [YHVH] of hosts, the whole earth is full of His glory.’”  (Isaiah 6:3) The apostle John saw similar angelic beings around the throne of God.  Day and night they never ceased praising God, saying, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”  (Revelation 4:8) When we receive our glorified bodies, we will join the angels in praising Him as we see the 24 elders doing in Revelation 4:10–11.  However, we should be joining the angels right now praising Him as the Kingdom has come to us, and we know Him. How much time do you spend praising the Lord?  Do you sing praises to Him daily? “The twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. …

In the Spring of April 1947, Our Lady appeared to a Protestant man named Bruno Cornacchiola who was looking for a quiet place to practice is speech “Mary Is Neither Ever Virgin Nor Immaculate.” Mary appeared wearing a long green mantle, a pink sash, and a white dress. She spoke to Bruno, “I am the Virgin of Revelation. You persecute me. Enough now. Return to the Holy Fold of on Earth (the Catholic Church).Later she added: “My body could not and did not decay. I was assumed into Heaven by my Son and the angels.” The Blessed Mother also gave Bruno a special message for the Holy Father himself, “You must go to the Holy Father, the Pope, the Supreme Pastor of Christianity, and personally tell him my message. Bring it to his attention. I shall tell you how to recognize the one who will accompany you to see the Pope.” Two years after the apparition, Bruno was able to personally deliver this message to the Pope. It is said that this message was an impetus to Pope Pius XII declaring the Dogma of the Assumption in 1950. It is interesting to note that Our Lady told Bruno that her body “could not” and “did not decay.” Our Lady, the Immaculate Conception, was pure and without corruption. Her body was taken into heaven because to be honored by all Creation. Take it from my lips into Your Divine Heart. Improve and complete it so much that it brings as much honor and joy to the Trinity as You granted it on earth with this prayer. May these pour upon Your Holy Humanity in Glorification to Your Painful Wounds and the Precious Blood that You spilled from them. First Prayer: The Circumcision Pray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the first wounds, the first pains, and the first Bloodshed as atonement for my and all of humanity’s sins of youth, as protection against the first mortal sin, especially among my relatives. Amen Second Prayer: The Suffering on the Mount of OlivesPray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the terrifying suffering of Jesus’ Heart on the Mount of Olives and every drop of His bloody sweat as atonement for my and all of humanity’s sins of the heart, as protection against such sins and for the spreading of Divine and brotherly Love. Amen Third Prayer: The FloggingPray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the many thousands of wounds, the gruesome pains, and the Precious Blood of the flogging as atonement for my and all of humanity’s sins of the flesh, as protection against such sins and for the preservation of innocence, especially among my relatives. Amen Fourth Prayer: The Crowning of ThornsPray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the wounds, the pains, and the Precious Blood of Jesus’ holy head from the crowning with thorns as atonement for my and all of humanity’s sins of the Spirit, as protection against such sins and the spreading of Christ’s kingdom here on earth. Amen Fifth Prayer: The Carrying of the CrossPray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the sufferings on the way of the Cross, especially His holy wound on His shoulder and its Precious Blood as atonement for my and all of humanity’s rebellion against the cross, every grumbling against Your holy arrangements and all other sins of the tongue, as protection against such sins and for true love of the cross. Amen Sixth Prayer: The CrucifixionPray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You Your Son on the Cross, His nailing and raising, His wounds on the hands and feet and the three streams of His Precious Blood that poured forth from these for us, His extreme tortures of the Body and Soul, His precious death and its non-bleeding renewal in all Holy Masses on earth as atonement for all wounds against vows and regulations within the Orders, as reparation for my and all of the world’s sins, for the sick and the dying, for all holy priests and laymen, for the Holy Father’s intentions toward the restoration of Christian families, for the strengthening of faith, for our country and unity among all nations in Christ and His Church, as well as for the diaspora. Amen Seventh Prayer: The Piercing of Jesus’ SidePray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, accept as worthy, for the needs of the Holy Church and as atonement for the sins of all mankind, the Precious Blood and Water which poured forth from the wound of Jesus’ Divine Heart. Be gracious and merciful toward us. Amen Blood of Christ, the last precious content of His Holy Heart, wash me of all my and others’ guilt of sin!Water from the Side of Christ, wash me clean of all punishments for sin and extinguish the flames of purgatory for me and for all the poor souls. Amen [There is theological dispute over accuracy of some of the following promises. Jesus, however, will not be outdone in generosity if you pray these prayers daily from the heart for 12 years.] The Magnificent Promises of the 12 Years Prayers1. The soul who prays them will suffer no purgatory.2. The soul who prays them will be accepted among the martyrs as though he had spilled his blood for his faith.3. The soul who prays them can choose three others whom Jesus will then keep in a state of grace sufficient to become holy.4. No one in the four successive generations of the soul who prays them will be lost.5. The soul who prays them will be made conscious of his death one month in advance. * If the soul praying these prayers dies before the entire 12 years of prayers have been completed, the Lord will accept them as having been prayed in their entirety, because the intention of the soul was to complete them as directed. By Bella Francis Luisa Piccarreta was an Italian mystic and author known as the “Little Daughter of the Divine Will.” She was born in Corato, province of Bari, Italy on April 23, 1865, the first Sunday after Easter (later known as Divine Mercy Sunday). Her parents, Vito Nicola Piccarreta and Rosa Tarantino were practicing Catholics and Luisa was baptised in the local parish Church that same evening. She received her first Holy Communion at age nine and often remained in prayer and adoration for hours before the Most Blessed Sacrament in her parish Church of Santa Maria Greca. At age eleven she consecrated herself to the Blessed Virgin and thus became a “daughter of Mary”, and with great fervor she spread devotion to the heavenly Mother among the girls of her neighborhood. Devotion to Mary was one of the fundamental characteristics of her spirituality,  and later in life she wrote a book of meditation on Our Lady entitled “The Virgin Mary in the Kingdom of the Divine Will”.  She received only a first grade education, and was called to serve our Lord as a victim soul at the tender age of 16. While at home at age 13, Luisa heard an uproar on the street, and she went out to the balcony to see what was happening. There a terrible vision appeared before her eyes: the street was crowded with shouting people and with armed soldiers who were leading three prisoners. Among these, Luisa recognized Jesus, carrying the cross on His shoulders. With deep sorrow and terror, Luisa contemplated this sad procession, but when the Divine Convict was under her balcony, He raised His head and said to her:  “Anima, aiutami!” (“Soul, help me!”). At this scene, Luisa cried out and immediately lost her senses. This extraordinary event marked for Luisa a decisive turning point in her life, because on that day she accepted the call to become a victim of expiation for the sins of humanity. The sufferings which she accepted upon herself lessened the pains of others, including souls in purgatory, and helped bring about conversions. In addition, Luisa’s state of victimhood provided an outlet for the Justice of the Lord, thus reducing the chastisements upon humanity. St. Annibale Di Francia,  her spiritual director wrote that the prayers, sufferings and tears of Luisa had mitigated many  divine chastisements described or foretold in her Diary. After she accepted her state of victim, Luisa was often drawn into a state of complete unconsciousness: her body would stiffen, becoming hard like stone, to the point that no one, even when joined together, was able to move her. Each morning Luisa would be found stiff and in a unmovable position. This phenomenon was misunderstood by her family and those who knew her.  However, her parents were immensely worried, who subjected her to visits by doctors, who were unable to make any diagnosis. Her family then turned in desperation to the local priests and after being blessed,  Luisa immediately regained her normal faculties, her lucid state and her state of immobility.  The humiliations and the sufferings which Luisa had to bear during this period were unspeakable. She was misunderstood by most, considered proud, false, a cheater, and a person who wanted to draw attention upon herself. Most painfully for Luisa, these accusations were also shared by her parents at times. But the most terrible humiliations she received were from some priests, who completely misjudged the frequent ecstatic state of Luisa. When they were called by her family in order to free her from her usual state of immobility, they would refuse to go; and if they did go, they would often overwhelm her with the most bitter reproaches. Once they left her in that state for as long as twenty-five days. Luisa expressed to her parents her desire to become a cloistered nun. Her parents were absolutely opposed to the idea. Luisa kept insisting, so one day her mother took her to the cloistered nuns at Trani, where they met with the Mother Superior. But her mother, not wanting her little Luisa to cloister herself in a monastery, revealed to the Mother Superior,  in detail all the defects and the strange phenomena surrounding her daughter, adding that she was a sickly girl of weak constitution. Obviously, these details provoked a definitive refusal on the part of the Superior, who immediately dismissed her, saying that life in the monastery was very hard, and that her frail health would not allow her to enter the religious life. Luisa returned to Corato with her heart full of sadness and she immediately poured out her sorrow to Jesus:  “Had You not promised me that I would become a nun?” And the Lord answered:You will be a nun, but the true little nun of my Heart. You will remain cloistered in a room, without ever moving, in which you will pray, suffer, and be always with Me.” And so, it happened as Jesus promised. Luisa remained in her room nailed to her bed of suffering for almost seventy years. During her early years, Luisa experienced her first visions (Luisa calls them dreams) of the evil spirit, who terrorized her frequently, making her very frightened. She tried to conquer her fears by hiding behind her bed, or seeking refuge in the arms of her mother, in which she felt safe. She soon learned to turn to God in prayer, and beseeched the Blessed Virgin Mary for protection. Our Blessed Mother soon responded to the prayers of little Luisa. One day, being once again assailed and terrorized by the evil spirit, Luisa turned to…

We are living in the time of Mercy which is prior to the time of Justice.  Our Lord revealed Himself to Sister Faustina to ask that the Church pray and ask for His Mercy to fill the world. When we ask for God’s Mercy to come upon the world – we ask for even more than forgiveness, we are asking for God to fulfill His covenant Promise to Israel, His Beloved ones.In these time there is a yearning that can be heard from the Church for the world to be saved. The Church and the world is experiencing an emptiness, and we are, in our sinfulness, asking that God hear our cries to take us out of the Egypt of sin that we have created. Our Lord revealed the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the simple phrase, For the Sake of His Sorrowful Passion, Have Mercy on Us and on the Whole world. In this prayer we are asking that by Mercy we may have our hearts renewed rather than by justice, which God is holding back. This time of Mercy is a great gift to the Church. It is a great gift to the World. We have gone astray and we have the choice of either coming back to him through His Mercy or through His Justice. God the Father has granted a period of Mercy to the world in which we can ask for the world to be transformed by Merciful love rather than Justice. “You will prepare the world for My final coming. Speak to the world about My mercy… It is a sign for the end times. After it will come the Day of Justice.” Jesus to St. Faustina  When we look at the state of our souls, and at the state of the world we might be tempted to think that our sins and the sins of the world are too great. We may be tempted to feel overwhelmed and lost – or feel like evil is winning. When we turn to God we are reminded by St. Faustina to turn to the Mercy of God and allow Him to change us and to love us.It is in calling out for Mercy that God hears us and will respond to our cry for help. God desires us to pray and to ask, and primarily He desires us to trust in His Love and Mercy and to call upon Him for help. In praying to God and asking for His Mercy to come, we are crying out with the very cry of the Holy Spirit. “I realize more and more how much every soul needs God’s mercy throughout life and particularly at the hour of death. This chaplet (of Divine Mercy) mitigates God’s anger, as He Himself told me.” (No. 1036)” – Saint Faustina We have heard through the words of various seers that we are living in times worse that Sodom and Gomorrah and worse than the time of the Flood. The difference is that we have recourse to the Sacraments and to Divine Grace. Sister Faustina says that we can mitigate and lessen the wrath of Divine Justice. As the Angel stand with his flaming sword we can respond with Penance and prayers for Mercy to fill the earth.  Subscribe for our FREE Newsletter Submit You have been successfully Subscribed! Ops! The Assumption is especially notable, for it detailed account of the translation of the body of the Blessed Virgin into heaven, an account, he affirms is based on the most reliable and ancient tradition. This discourse is cited by Pope Pius XII on November 1, 1950 in his definition of the Assumption of the Blessed Mother of God into heaven  as a Dogma of faith . San Juan Damasceno is also known as St. John Damascene .  He was born in Damascus, Syria, around 675, at a time when the Mideast was rapidly changing. The power and culture of the Greeks and Romans had come to an end. The Muslims conquered Damascus in 635 and the city had been under Muslim rule for forty years.St. John was born into an upper-class Christian family and he was raised in the faith. He was extremely well educated in theology, philosophy, and science under the guidance of a monk from Sicily who had been captured and brought as a prisoner to Syria. He gained fluency in Greek and Arabic. His father, although a Christian, was a high-ranking financial officer who raised taxes for the Muslim caliphs.  St. John succeeded his father as finance minister or “grand vizier” to the caliph of Damascus. He was widely respected for his competence, fairness, and humility. His work ended abruptly in the year 700 when the Muslims shifted their policies toward Christians. He resigned, distributed his wealth, and became a monk at the monastery of St. Sabas in the desert on the outskirts of Jerusalem at the age of 25.St. John spent his time in prayer and contemplation, study and writing. He was a prolific author and wrote on a wide range of topics  addressing philosophy, heresies, and orthodox theology. THIS IS HOW THE VIRGIN MARY DIED ACCORDING TO SAN JUAN DAMASCENO, DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH “The Mother of God did not die of illness, because she did not have to receive the punishment of illness, because she had no original sin. She did not die of old age, because she did not have to grow old, since the punishment for the sin of the first parents did not come to her:  She died of love, a deep desire to go to heaven to unite with her Son. After Our Lord’s ascension into heaven, some 14 years later, the Virgin Mary summoned the apostles for her departure from this world into eternity.  Her life on earth was complete after having spent time teaching the religion of the Savior to young and old,  comforted so many sad people and helped so many sick and dying. The Apostles loved her as the kindest of all mothers, and they hastened to travel to receive from her maternal lips her last counsel, and from her sacrosanct hands her last blessing. They arrived, and with copious tears, and on their knees, they kissed those holy hands that had so many times blessed them.  For each one of them, the exalted Lady had words of comfort and hope. And then, like someone who falls asleep, she departed for eternity. The news spread throughout the city, and there was not a Christian who did not come to mourn her passing just as they would have grieved the loss of their own mother. Her burial looked more like an Easter procession than a funeral. Everyone sang the Hallelujah with the strongest hope that they now had a most powerful Protector in heaven, to intercede for each one of Jesus’ disciples. Very soft but strong aromas were felt in the air, and each one seemed to hear very soft harmonies of music. Thomas the Apostle, had not been able to arrive on time for the burial of the Blessed Mother. Thomas said to Peter “You cannot deny me the great favour of being able to go to the tomb of my most loving mother and give one last kiss to those holy hands that blessed me so many times. Peter agreed.  As the disciples approached the Holy Sepulcher, and when they were close they began to feel again very aromas in the environment and harmonious music in the air. They opened the tomb and instead of seeing the body of the Virgin they only found a great quantity of very beautiful flowers. Jesus Christ had come, He had raised His Blessed Mother and taken her to heaven. This was St. John Damascene’s theological interpretation of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Let us prayAlmighty ever living God, who assumed the Immaculate Virgin Mary,  the Mother of Your Son, body and soul into heavenly glory, grant we pray that, always attentive to the things that are above, we may merit to be sharers of her glory.  Through Our Lord Jesus Christ Your Son, who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God,  for ever and ever, Amen.
