Send forth your light and truth into my soul! May I see all my sins and failures in this light and confess them with a contrite heart. Jesus Christ, gentle Savior, I put my hope of salvation in you. Accept my confession with loving mercy and move my heart to true sorrow for my sins. Heavenly Father, when you look into my soul, look not so much at the evil I have done but at the genuine sorrow which I feel within my heart. Help me to confess all my sins with a childlike trust in your loving forgiveness. Subscribe for our FREE Newsletter Submit You have been successfully Subscribed! Ops! Are We Living in the Last Days?

From Catholieducation.org There has been a surge in interest in topics such as Bible prophecy and the Rapture in the last few years, largely due to the surprising success of the Left Behind series written by two devout Protestants. This article seeks to outline Catholic beliefs about the “last days,” relying on Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church and to compare those teachings with the belief in the Rapture as it is found in the Left Behind books and similar works. Have you ever had non-Catholic friends ask questions such as, “Do Catholics believe in the Rapture?” and “Why doesn’t the Catholic Church interpret the book of Revelation literally?”? Perhaps you or someone you know has read the best-selling Left Behind books and wants to know if they are “biblically sound.” Maybe you saw a televangelist explaining that Christ will come soon to Rapture Christians from earth, but you’ve never heard your priest talk about it. There has been a surge in interest in topics such as Bible prophecy and the Rapture in the last few years, largely due to the surprising success of the Left Behind series, co-authored by Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, two Fundamentalist Protestant authors.1 Many Catholics have read the books, and while some recognize that the books do not completely agree with Catholic doctrine, others assume they are compatible. Aren’t the authors devout Christians trying to spread the Gospel?2 Given this situation, this article seeks to do two things. First, outline Catholic beliefs about the “last days,” relying on Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Second, compare those teachings with the belief in the Rapture as it is found in the Left Behind books and similar works. Are we living in the “last days”? Are we, as many Christians believe, living in the last days? In fact, the “last days” refers not only to the “end of time,” but to the last two thousand years. Scripture teaches that the Incarnation ushered in “the last days.” According to Hebrews 1:1-2, “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.” At Pentecost, Peter preached that “the last days” had arrived, in fulfillment of the words of the prophet Joel: “For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day; but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall be in the last days,’ God says, that I will pour forth my spirit on all mankind . . .” (Acts 2:15-17; cf. Joel 2:28-32). “The last days” or “the end times,” properly understood, refers to the time of the New Covenant, the gathering together of God’s people in the Church, which is “on earth, the seed and the beginning of the kingdom” (CCC 567, 669; Lumen Gentium) . The Holy Spirit, the “soul of the Church,” has been and is being poured out, because of the redemptive work of Jesus Christ: The Holy Spirit is at work with the Father and the Son from the beginning to the completion of the plan for our salvation. But in these “end times,” ushered in by the Son’s redeeming Incarnation, the Spirit is revealed and given, recognized and welcomed as a person. Now can this divine plan, accomplished in Christ, the firstborn and head of the new creation, be embodied in mankind by the outpouring of the Spirit: as the Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting (CCC 686). This understanding of the “last days” differs from that of those who believe in the Rapture. Catholics agree that there will definitely be an “end of time” and that history as we know it will one day be complete. But we also recognize that each of us will face the end of our time on earth, and that this should, in many ways, concern us more than the end of the world (see CCC 1007). And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only-begotten Son of God. Born of the Father before all ages. God of God; Light of Light; true God of true God. Begotten not made; of one being with the Father; by Whom all things were made. Who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven. And was made Flesh by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary: And was made man. He was also crucified for us, suffered under Pontius Pilate and was buried. And on the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures. And ascending into heaven, He sits at the right hand of the Father. And He shall come again in glory to judge the living and the dead; and of His kingdom there shall be no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, Lord and Giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son. Who together with the Father and the Son is no less adored, and glorified: Who spoke by the Prophets. And I believe in One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the remission of sins. And I look for the resurrection of the dead. And the life of the world to come. Confiteor unum baptisma in remissionem peccatorum. Et expecto resurrectionem mortuorum, et vitam venturi saeculi. Amen. “> Subscribe for our FREE Newsletter Submit You have been successfully Subscribed! Ops! Something went wrong, please try again. St. Francis made a living crib, an enactment of the birth of Christ near the town of Greccio on Christmas Day, and so popularized the making of a crib scene in our homes, workplaces, churches, hospitals, schools and shops at Christmas. Desiring to represent as faithfully as possible the lowly poverty of the infancy of the Saviour born at Bethlehem, when the Feast of the Nativity was at hand, Francis sent word to a religious nobleman in the town of Greccio named John who provided an ox and an ass, with a stable, in anticipation of the joys of the coming celebration. Finally the holy night arrived, and Francis was there with many of his brothers gathered around him. The hay in the manger is prepared, the ox and the ass are arranged around the manger, and the vigil celebration begins with joy. A great multitude of people stream together from various places with candles and torches as requested by Francis to light up the night just like that first Christmas night lit by a star. He ensured that everybody including flora (represented by hay) and fauna (represented by the ox and ass) had a part to play in the Nativity scene since he knew that the Saviour was born for all.  And so, out of Greccio was made a new Bethlehem! Francis stood before the manger overcome with joy, and Mass was celebrated over the crib. After the celebration, Francis insisted that care be taken of the hay and the animals, reminding us to take care of every created thing even after we no longer need it! St. Francis’ initiative at Greccio popularized the making of a Christmas crib in our homes, churches, hospitals, schools and other places where we wish to remember the Christmas event. Forgive us for ever having used the name of Jesus in vain, or without due respect. Help us remember how reverently and lovingly Your Mother Mary used the name of Jesus, and how humbly Saint Joseph called You and spoke to You by name. Your name, dear Jesus, is above every other name in heaven or on earth, because You are Jesus, the Savior of all men. You have saved us, and You have told us to ask God anything in Your name, and it would be granted. We ask You, humbly and confidently, to bless us and our work, and give us the rich treasures of Your divine grace, without which we cannot even so much as pronounce the name of Jesus. In 1878, in a small town in the northwest corner of France, Our Lady and Jesus himself appeared to the approved mystic and stigmatist, Marie-Julie Jahenny. They showed her the truly astounding Scapular of Benediction and Protection, more commonly known simply as the Purple Scapular. Our Lady promised Marie-Julie that those who possess this scapular “will see their family and home protected… from fires, chastisements, storms, and darkness. They will have light as if it were plain day.” Crucially, it is “like a lightning rod beneath which the blows of divine wrath will not strike.” Jesus also revealed that those who reverently use it “will be spared the troubles of the soul” and “will be sheltered from danger as if they already possess heaven.” The following video, which is very brief and beautifully produced, is the best introduction to the history, meaning, and promises of the Purple Scapular because it relies upon the very words which Jesus and Mary themselves spoke to Marie-Julie. Watching this video will help you understand the profound theological meaning heaven wishes to convey regarding the specific images embedded within the overall scenes or related symbols on the Purple Scapular pictured above: https://youtu.be/q8-RVxD3JuY Ever since it was first revealed to Marie-Julie over 140 years ago (including its explosion in popularity among devout Catholics in the U.S. and Canada since 2020), families all over the world have displayed this divine insurance policy in their homes and have received the consolations of knowing that God will protect them from natural and supernatural dangers. There are many witnesses to the supernaturally protective value of the Purple Scapular. As just one example, a few years ago, Christine Watkins of California, the well-known Catholic author, hung this extraordinary divine insurance policy on a wall in her home and prayed the brief Purple Scapular prayers. Just two days later, one of the most massive wildfires in California history began racing toward her neighborhood, led by a scorching 100-foot tall wall of flames! Fire came from all sides. Entire homes and properties were quickly engulfed in the enormous furnace of destruction. Houses were burning to the ground in minutes. Christine’s home, however, was left completely unscathed. Not only did the wall of fire spare her house with zero damage, but it actually passed around her entire property, leaving even her fruit trees untouched. The divine promises of the Purple Scapular are real; this is because its protections are founded upon a loving, all-powerful God who cares about your family’s safety. All you need is the simple act of faith of placing it on a wall in your home. The founder of this website, Bud Macfarlane, based upon his personal experience of having Purple Scapular near the entrance of his own home, believes one of the most profound spiritual benefits of the Purple Scapular is the deeply peaceful grace of consolation he receives every time he gazes upon it as he comes and goes, day after day. This is why the Purple Scapular spreads by word-of-mouth and when visitors see it for the first time in the homes of friends and relatives. Can you imagine it adorning a wall in your home? Offered at cost by the Mary Foundation as a “tool for evangelization,” your beautiful, soft, and durable all-woven wool Purple Scapular will arrive in a lovely gift box with a card featuring the official Purple Scapular Prayers and an explanation of its divine promises. Each one comes with the blessing of a Catholic priest, is sprinkled with Lourdes water, and is touched to Bud’s first-class saint relics as a free service to help with your gift-giving. In large part because of their complexity and the exacting material requirements specified by Our Lady, it was extremely difficult to find an authentic Purple Scapular before the Mary Foundation made its premium-quality version available. Our Lady herself described it as “unknown,” to Marie-Julie Jahenny, so perhaps there is a providential reason why you are finding out about it today. Who is Marie-Julie Jahenny? Born in 1850, Marie-Julie Jahenny was a Catholic mystic who lived in a rural northwest region of France called Brittany (Breton). In recent years, she has become known primarily for her apparitions in the late 1800s from Jesus and Mary revealing the Purple Scapular of Benediction and Protection. She passed away at the age of ninety. Her experiences and revelations were approved by the Bishop of Nantes in 1875. At the age of twenty-three, she received from God the stigmata: she bore and suffered the crucifixion wounds of Christ in her body. On several occasions, she undertook extended periods of complete fasting from food, miraculously surviving while consuming only Holy Communion. Many of her prophesies of specific future events came to pass; some have yet to take place. Marie-Julie Jahenny was prayerful woman who never married. Her parents were peasants. She lived in the family home under the religious rule of the Third Order Franciscans. She had little education, spoke only French, and was not a celebrity. Due to her mystical and physical sufferings, she was often confined to her bed or to a chair. In her home town she was known for her modest nature, courtesy, and her great love of adoring Jesus’ true presence in the tabernacle at the local Catholic church. She was obedient to her local Catholic priest and to her bishop. The Purple Scapular Prayer (The Crux Ave) Word-for-Word from Our Lady I hail thee, Jesus crucified, for granting me life.
