But The Church Is Not Ours! By Bella Francis Some Cardinal Robert Sarah quotes from his books: – God or nothing– The Power of Silence– The day is now far spent– From the depths of our hearts Some people would like the Church to be transformed after the model of modern democracies. In it the government would be entrusted to the majority. But that would amount to making the Church a human society and not the family founded by God. In large sectors of the Church, we have lost the sense of God’s objectivity. Each individual starts from his subjective experience and creates for himself a religion that suits him. In order to accomplish her true task adequately, the Church must constantly renew the effort to detach herself from her tendency towards worldliness and once again to become open towards God. The silence of the crib, the silence of Nazareth, the silence of the Cross, and the silence of the sealed tomb are one. The silences of Jesus are silences of poverty, humility, self-sacrifice, and abasement; it is the bottomless abyss of his kenosis, his self-emptying (Phil 2:7). In his encyclical Deus caritas est, Benedict XVI correctly recalls that “Christian charitable activity must be independent of parties and ideologies. It is not a means of changing the world ideologically, and it is not at the service of worldly stratagems, but it is a way of making present here and now the love which man always needs” (DCE 31). And the source of this love is God himself. We must reflect theologically on charity so as to prevent Catholic charitable agencies from falling into secularism. The nature of the Church is in the love of God, and the charity of the Church is in the first place the charity of God. The modern world and even some clerics, inebriated by their feeling of power, often think that cloistered monks and nuns serve no purpose. Ultimately, that is the noblest compliment we can offer the contemplatives who have withdrawn behind the high walls of their cloisters; they serve nothing in particular here below, but simply God alone. This is the simple, beautiful secret of their prayers, which support the whole world. There is a sort of glory of silence. Saint Ignatius of Loyola did not hesitate to write in his Spiritual Exercises: “The more the soul is in solitude and seclusion, the more fit it renders itself to approach and be united with its Creator and Lord. The combat against evil plays out over time, and it is important to persevere and not to lose hope. God is fashioning hearts, and evil never has the last word. In the darkest night, God works in silence. In large sectors of the Church, we have lost the sense of God’s objectivity. Each individual starts from his subjective experience and creates for himself a religion that suits him. Let us look at the hands of the Crucified. Our hands, like his, must be pierced so as to keep and to hold nothing greedily. Our heart, like his, must be open so that everyone finds welcome and refuge there… let us look at the Cross. It is the only book that will give us the true meaning of it… Only the Cross will teach us to ‘love to the end. Take it from my lips into Your Divine Heart. Improve and complete it so much that it brings as much honor and joy to the Trinity as You granted it on earth with this prayer. May these pour upon Your Holy Humanity in Glorification to Your Painful Wounds and the Precious Blood that You spilled from them. First Prayer: The Circumcision Pray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the first wounds, the first pains, and the first Bloodshed as atonement for my and all of humanity’s sins of youth, as protection against the first mortal sin, especially among my relatives. Amen Second Prayer: The Suffering on the Mount of OlivesPray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the terrifying suffering of Jesus’ Heart on the Mount of Olives and every drop of His bloody sweat as atonement for my and all of humanity’s sins of the heart, as protection against such sins and for the spreading of Divine and brotherly Love. Amen Third Prayer: The FloggingPray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the many thousands of wounds, the gruesome pains, and the Precious Blood of the flogging as atonement for my and all of humanity’s sins of the flesh, as protection against such sins and for the preservation of innocence, especially among my relatives. Amen Fourth Prayer: The Crowning of ThornsPray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the wounds, the pains, and the Precious Blood of Jesus’ holy head from the crowning with thorns as atonement for my and all of humanity’s sins of the Spirit, as protection against such sins and the spreading of Christ’s kingdom here on earth. Amen Fifth Prayer: The Carrying of the CrossPray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the sufferings on the way of the Cross, especially His holy wound on His shoulder and its Precious Blood as atonement for my and all of humanity’s rebellion against the cross, every grumbling against Your holy arrangements and all other sins of the tongue, as protection against such sins and for true love of the cross. Amen Sixth Prayer: The CrucifixionPray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You Your Son on the Cross, His nailing and raising, His wounds on the hands and feet and the three streams of His Precious Blood that poured forth from these for us, His extreme tortures of the Body and Soul, His precious death and its non-bleeding renewal in all Holy Masses on earth as atonement for all wounds against vows and regulations within the Orders, as reparation for my and all of the world’s sins, for the sick and the dying, for all holy priests and laymen, for the Holy Father’s intentions toward the restoration of Christian families, for the strengthening of faith, for our country and unity among all nations in Christ and His Church, as well as for the diaspora. Amen Seventh Prayer: The Piercing of Jesus’ SidePray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, then:Eternal Father, accept as worthy, for the needs of the Holy Church and as atonement for the sins of all mankind, the Precious Blood and Water which poured forth from the wound of Jesus’ Divine Heart. Be gracious and merciful toward us. Amen Blood of Christ, the last precious content of His Holy Heart, wash me of all my and others’ guilt of sin!Water from the Side of Christ, wash me clean of all punishments for sin and extinguish the flames of purgatory for me and for all the poor souls. Amen [There is theological dispute over accuracy of some of the following promises. Jesus, however, will not be outdone in generosity if you pray these prayers daily from the heart for 12 years.] The Magnificent Promises of the 12 Years Prayers1. The soul who prays them will suffer no purgatory.2. The soul who prays them will be accepted among the martyrs as though he had spilled his blood for his faith.3. The soul who prays them can choose three others whom Jesus will then keep in a state of grace sufficient to become holy.4. No one in the four successive generations of the soul who prays them will be lost.5. The soul who prays them will be made conscious of his death one month in advance. * If the soul praying these prayers dies before the entire 12 years of prayers have been completed, the Lord will accept them as having been prayed in their entirety, because the intention of the soul was to complete them as directed. By Patricia Brower Jesus tells us that Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as exquisitely as the lilies of the field.  Jesus reminds us in times like these we should not worry or be anxious.  With all the trials and tribulations in this world it is tempting for us to worry about what we will eat and drink.  But God is not a passive watcher over the world nor our lives.  Jesus asks us to take pause to consider the lilies. We can imagine Jesus walking with his disciples near the field of lilies.  The beautiful wildflowers that grow on the side of hills or in fields.  And he uses the moment to teach his followers about how close He is to His creation.  And He wants us to reconsider the amount of worry we put into what we will eat and wear tomorrow.  Jesus says look at the beauty of the lilies in the field.  And he exclaims, not even King Solomon was dressed in such fine clothing.   We also know from 1 Kings 7:19 that the Temple that Solomon built for the Lord had two pillars at the front of it that were topped with lilies.  And so the reference to the beauty of the lilies has an additional spiritual meaning.  Just as Solomon’s Temple was headed by the lilies, so is the Body of Christ “headed” by the symbolic lily which is the Will of God.We will easily become overwhelmed if we worry about money and work, and the toils of this world.  And Jesus reminds us to “consider the lilies” which neither do not labor or worry.  By being so close to the Lord they are magnificently beautiful and arrayed with the finest “clothing”.  And so it is for us if we trust in the Providence of God in our life.   For further reflection, consider listening to “Lilies of the Field” by Father John Michael Talbot Subscribe for our FREE Newsletter Submit You have been successfully Subscribed! The Divine Marriage and The Assumption of Mary

Over the last five years there has been a great confusion in our world regarding the definition of woman and gender. Famed Lutheran Swiss psychiatrist believed that the greatest religious even in the over 400 years was the Papal Announcement of the dogma of the Assumption which took place in 1950. Perhaps by giving praise to God for the Assumption of Our Lady we can help nourish the proper respect that is due to woman in the design and love of God. And perhaps it will be through the Age of Mary that confusion of gender will disappear. We are certainly blessed to have had the Church confirm this rich Dogma regarding our Blessed Mother. It is no small honor for Our Lady to have been assumed body and soul into heaven with her Divine Son. In continuity with the Immaculate Conception – the Assumption is the reward and the affirmation of Our lady as having been born without original sin and having been full of grace from her creation. Not only was her body incorrupt, Our Lady was assumed into heaven and crowned Queen. The Heavenly bride is united with her Groom in heaven, completing in some way the Divine Marriage.    Blessed is the Mother of God, who has done the Will of the Father. Mary, indeed, is blessed among all women. Let the world acknowledge the greatness of Mary so that woman can again regain her dignity. Jesus is proud to announce loudly to the world that his Mother was honored with her Assumption into Heaven. As the Mother of the Son, Daughter of the Father, and Spouse of the Holy Spirit, Mary is honored by Heaven. Our Lady’s body was not allowed to be corrupted by nor buried under the earth. Mary, blessed are you among woman. You are the model of virtue for all the world. Mary’s glorified body is a magnificent Temple of the Holy Spirit. In 1950 Pope Pius XII declared: “We proclaim and define it to be a dogma revealed by God that the immaculate Mother of God, Mary ever virgin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven.” All of heaven and earth rejoice. God has favored Our Lady with unique affection. Subscribe for our FREE Newsletter Submit You have been successfully Subscribed! Ops! Something went wrong, please try again. As one sick, I come to the Physician of life, unclean, to the fountain of Mercy blind to the light of eternal splendor, poor and needy to the Lord of heaven and earth. Therefore, I beg of You through Your infinite mercy and generosity, heal my weakness, wash my uncleanness, give light to my blindness, enrich my poverty and clothe my nakedness. May I thus receive the Bread of Angels the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, with such reverence and humility contrition and devotion, purity and faith, purpose and intention as shall aid my soul’s salvation. Grant, I beg of You that I receive not only the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, but also, its full grace and power. Give me the grace most merciful God, to receive the Body of Your only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, born of the Virgin Mary in such a manner that I may deserve to be intimately united with His mystical Body and to be numbered among His members. Most loving Father, grant that I may behold for all eternity, face to face , Your beloved Son whom now on my pilgrimage, I am about to receive under the sacramental veil, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God world without end. Amen. St. Thomas studied in Paris and Cologne and became and acclaimed scholar and theological advisor to the papal court . His fellow students at first nicknamed him the ‘dumb ox’ because he was a heavy set man with a quiet manner. This great teacher and Doctor of the church, once wrote that in the sacrament of the Eucharist, Christ preaches an ‘unrivaled’ humility which disdains no dwelling but consents to come like a guest to any heart even one that is defiled. In keeping with his own admirable reverence for our Lord, St. Thomas also said that no one should approach Our Lord in communion without reverent devotion and fervent love, without the repentance or without recalling the mystery of our Lord’s Redemption. We should all be as dumb as this ‘dumb ox’. It is indeed telling that such a towering figure as St. Thomas could be so filled with the spirit of Christ as to approach him as he says in this prayer as one sick, unclean, blind, poor and needy asking for our Lord’s Grace for Holiness in His presence. Another expression of a prayer before Holy Communion by St. Thomas Aquinas. I thank you Lord God, Almighty Father, despite my unworthiness by Your mercy alone, you desire to admit me into the most sacred Body of Your only begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. I beg you gracious Father that this Holy Communion be not an occasion of punishment for my soul, but a healthy intercession for forgiveness, be an armour for my faith, shield for my good will, death of all my vices, extermination of all my carnal appetites, increased charity, patience, true humility and all virtues, a perfect stillness of my body and my spirit, a firm defence against all enemies visible and invisible, strength in temptations, perpetual union with you alone my true Lord and God, a happy and blissful death. I beg You to take me a sinner to that ineffable invitation where You with Your Son and the Holy Spirit and your Saints dwell in true light, sanctification, fulfilled and lasting joy and perfect happiness. By Bella Francis Luisa Piccarreta was an Italian mystic and author known as the “Little Daughter of the Divine Will.” She was born in Corato, province of Bari, Italy on April 23, 1865, the first Sunday after Easter (later known as Divine Mercy Sunday). Her parents, Vito Nicola Piccarreta and Rosa Tarantino were practicing Catholics and Luisa was baptised in the local parish Church that same evening. She received her first Holy Communion at age nine and often remained in prayer and adoration for hours before the Most Blessed Sacrament in her parish Church of Santa Maria Greca. At age eleven she consecrated herself to the Blessed Virgin and thus became a “daughter of Mary”, and with great fervor she spread devotion to the heavenly Mother among the girls of her neighborhood. Devotion to Mary was one of the fundamental characteristics of her spirituality,  and later in life she wrote a book of meditation on Our Lady entitled “The Virgin Mary in the Kingdom of the Divine Will”.  She received only a first grade education, and was called to serve our Lord as a victim soul at the tender age of 16. While at home at age 13, Luisa heard an uproar on the street, and she went out to the balcony to see what was happening. There a terrible vision appeared before her eyes: the street was crowded with shouting people and with armed soldiers who were leading three prisoners. Among these, Luisa recognized Jesus, carrying the cross on His shoulders. With deep sorrow and terror, Luisa contemplated this sad procession, but when the Divine Convict was under her balcony, He raised His head and said to her:  “Anima, aiutami!” (“Soul, help me!”). At this scene, Luisa cried out and immediately lost her senses. This extraordinary event marked for Luisa a decisive turning point in her life, because on that day she accepted the call to become a victim of expiation for the sins of humanity. The sufferings which she accepted upon herself lessened the pains of others, including souls in purgatory, and helped bring about conversions. In addition, Luisa’s state of victimhood provided an outlet for the Justice of the Lord, thus reducing the chastisements upon humanity. St. Annibale Di Francia,  her spiritual director wrote that the prayers, sufferings and tears of Luisa had mitigated many  divine chastisements described or foretold in her Diary. After she accepted her state of victim, Luisa was often drawn into a state of complete unconsciousness: her body would stiffen, becoming hard like stone, to the point that no one, even when joined together, was able to move her. Each morning Luisa would be found stiff and in a unmovable position. This phenomenon was misunderstood by her family and those who knew her.  However, her parents were immensely worried, who subjected her to visits by doctors, who were unable to make any diagnosis. Her family then turned in desperation to the local priests and after being blessed,  Luisa immediately regained her normal faculties, her lucid state and her state of immobility.  The humiliations and the sufferings which Luisa had to bear during this period were unspeakable. She was misunderstood by most, considered proud, false, a cheater, and a person who wanted to draw attention upon herself. Most painfully for Luisa, these accusations were also shared by her parents at times. But the most terrible humiliations she received were from some priests, who completely misjudged the frequent ecstatic state of Luisa. When they were called by her family in order to free her from her usual state of immobility, they would refuse to go; and if they did go, they would often overwhelm her with the most bitter reproaches. Once they left her in that state for as long as twenty-five days. Luisa expressed to her parents her desire to become a cloistered nun. Her parents were absolutely opposed to the idea. Luisa kept insisting, so one day her mother took her to the cloistered nuns at Trani, where they met with the Mother Superior. But her mother, not wanting her little Luisa to cloister herself in a monastery, revealed to the Mother Superior,  in detail all the defects and the strange phenomena surrounding her daughter, adding that she was a sickly girl of weak constitution. Obviously, these details provoked a definitive refusal on the part of the Superior, who immediately dismissed her, saying that life in the monastery was very hard, and that her frail health would not allow her to enter the religious life. Luisa returned to Corato with her heart full of sadness and she immediately poured out her sorrow to Jesus:  “Had You not promised me that I would become a nun?” And the Lord answered:You will be a nun, but the true little nun of my Heart. You will remain cloistered in a room, without ever moving, in which you will pray, suffer, and be always with Me.” And so, it happened as Jesus promised. Luisa remained in her room nailed to her bed of suffering for almost seventy years. During her early years, Luisa experienced her first visions (Luisa calls them dreams) of the evil spirit, who terrorized her frequently, making her very frightened. She tried to conquer her fears by hiding behind her bed, or seeking refuge in the arms of her mother, in which she felt safe. She soon learned to turn to God in prayer, and beseeched the Blessed Virgin Mary for protection. Our Blessed Mother soon responded to the prayers of little Luisa. One day, being once again assailed and terrorized by the evil spirit, Luisa turned to…

On August 6, 1945, the A-bombing of #Hiroshima took place – the ultimate barbaric and inhumane act of cruelty. A city full of civilians, women and children was annihilated in a flash by a devastating nuclear attack carried out by the US. 80’000+ victims perished instantaneously. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov: On this day, the terrible death of innocent civilians strikes a chord with millions of people on our planet. The United States was the first and only country to use this type of weapons of mass destruction. We need to eliminate the risk of military confrontation between the nuclear powers and rule out the possibility of a nuclear war. We firmly believe that such a war cannot be won and must never be unleashed. We suggest that all nuclear powers officially confirm their commitment to this tenet.  Pope Benedict XVI in 2006 starkly warned “those governments which count on nuclear arms as a means of ensuring the security of their countries.” He called their viewpoint “completely fallacious.” “In a nuclear war there would be no victors, only victims,” he added.Pope Francis has frequently addressed the moral and life-threatening dangers of nuclear weapons. In a message to the 2014 Vienna Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons, he wrote: “Nuclear deterrence and the threat of mutually assured destruction cannot be the basis for … peaceful coexistence among peoples and states.” He decried how expenditures “on nuclear weapons squanders the wealth of nations.”The Second Vatican Council was equally clear that “any act of war aimed indiscriminately at the destruction of entire cities … is a crime against God and man himself.” The council maintained that the arms race “is not a safe way to preserve a steady peace.” Hiroshima Today Subscribe for our FREE Newsletter Submit You have been successfully Subscribed! By Bella Francis Since several years, a parishioner Maureen Kent had been attending Eucharistic Adoration in the chapel of the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview  Illinois in  the United States .One day she decided she would take  pictures of the Eucharist  in the monstrance with her iPhone. To her surprise and utter delight,  the 3 pictures taken showed a bright lightshaped as an image larger than a human and appearing to hover next to the host. Maureen affirmed that no photo-shopping was done to the digital images.  Just what she calls a great surprise , a privilege.    Deacon Ken Long commented. Several manifestations of God leave us very surprised. Apparitions of the Virgin Mary in the world, signs and Eucharistic miracles that reveal the real presence of Jesus in the bread and wine.  The Deacon  reiterated that Mary always brings to our attention  the presence of her Son in the Eucharistic Bread. She calls us to worship the living God present in all the altars of the world, the daily miracle that occurs at the hands of priests, in the celebration of the Holy Mass. May such experiences lead us to deep reflection in the practice of the catholic faith, prayer and holiness.  Subscribe for our FREE Newsletter Submit You have been successfully Subscribed!
