If we honor and love her heart,  she forms our hearts to encounter Christ in the Eucharist by guiding us to be more conscious, true, intimate,  to welcome Him,  live authentic lives thus making us become Eucharistic souls.   John the Baptist cries out in the wilderness,  to prepare the way for the Lord who comes and is born for us, how lowering the neck of pride and filling the gaps of miseries with the virtue of humility and poverty,  in obedience in purity, mortifying us by fasting and detachment from self and material goods.   Only with a true preparation for the meeting with God which is coming to us,.  Poverty, purity, obedience:  all these are riches for all the people but even more so for the priests who celebrate the Eucharist and who must obtain the Eucharist in detachment from self from possessions, by mortification,  the spirit empties and lifts up the soul toward heaven.  How many priests fast, do mortification,  they are very few.  Their tables are stacked with food, bellies full, all of which weighs them down and diminishes their sanctity.   The priest in this state, fails to recognize the coming of the Lord,  lacking in trust , thus obscuring the presence of Our Lord to the people.  The  Eucharist is an encounter with God who blends in with us and what is the Eucharist if not love;  love that wants to nourish us but only if our involvement, our spirit  prepares for His coming, with prayer, mortification, poverty,  purity, obedience.  Only then can we recognize His love and welcome Him.  When you are  full of yourself, love doesn’t enter and you don’t recognize it.  Let’s go to the heart of Mary , let’s go to her who shapes us who helps us with all the necessary virtues who prepares us to encounter her Son in the Eucharist who will be born in us.     Below is an excerpt from Fr. Stefano Manelli from “Jesus, our Eucharistic love”   “The Holy Eucharist is the Bread that comes from our Heavenly Mother. It is Bread produced by Mary from the flour of Her immaculate flesh, kneaded into dough with her virginal milk. St. Augustine wrote, “Jesus took His Flesh from the flesh of Mary.” We know, too, that united to the Divinity in the Eucharist there is Jesus’ Body and Blood taken from the body and blood of the Blessed Virgin. Therefore, at every Holy Communion we receive,   it would be quite correct, and a very beautiful thing, to take notice of our Holy Mother’s sweet and mysterious presence, inseparably united with Jesus in the Host. Jesus is always the Son she adores. He is Flesh of her flesh and Blood of her blood. If Adam could call Eve “bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh” (Gen. 2:23), cannot the holy Virgin Mary even more rightly call Jesus ‘Flesh of my flesh and Blood of my blood”? Taken from the “intact Virgin” as says St. Thomas Aquinas, the flesh of Jesus is the maternal flesh of Mary, the blood of Jesus is the maternal blood of Mary. Therefore, it will never be possible to separate Jesus from Mary.   And thus “The Eucharist,” writes St. Albert the Great, “produces impulses of a love that is angelic, and It has the unique power to put in souls a holy feeling of tenderness toward the Queen of Angels. She has given us what is Flesh of her flesh and Bone of her bone, and in the Eucharist, she continues to give us this sweet, virginal, heavenly banquet. When we go before Jesus on the altar, we always find Him “with Mary His Mother,” as the Magi did at Bethlehem (Mt. 2:11). And Jesus in the sacred Host, from the altar of our hearts, can repeat to each of us what He said to St. John the Evangelist from the altar of Calvary, “Behold thy Mother” (John 19:27). For this reason, at every Holy Mass which is celebrated, the Blessed Virgin can repeat with truth to Jesus in the Host and in the Chalice, “You are my Son today I have generated You” (Ps. 2:7). And justly St. Augustine teaches us that in the Eucharist “Mary extends and perpetuates Her Divine Maternity”, while St. Albert the Great exhorts with love, “My Soul if you wish to experience intimacy with Mary let yourself be carried between Her arms and nourished with Her blood” … Go with this ineffable chaste thought to the banquet of God and you will find in the Blood of the Son the nourishment of the Mother.”   And so there could be a never-ending extolling of Our Blessed Mother’s virtues in drawing us close to her beloved Son. Her tenderness, her love, her constant pleading for our cause is unsurpassed.   Immaculate heart of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, Mother of the Word Incarnate,  Mother of fair love, we implore your intercession for our salvation. Keep me from all worldliness and vanity. Help me, O Lord, that I may, under him, prudently and discreetly guide and govern his household. Let no fault of mine aggravate any sins by which he may be especially tempted; enable me to soothe him in perplexity, to cheer him in difficulty, to refresh him in weariness, and, as far as may be, to advise him in doubt. [Give me understanding so to fulfil my part in the education of our children, that they may be our joy in this world and our glory in the next.] Grant that our perfect union here may be the beginning of the still more perfect and blissful union hereafter in Thy kingdom; and this I pray through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen. The focus of man and wife is to help lead each other to their heavenly abode where they can enjoy the beatific vision of God.Marriage is to be held in the utmost importance and admiration as men and women “become one flesh” in holy matrimony. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24) An adaptation from Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s Book of SacramentsThe man is the “head” of the wife, as Christ is the Head of the Church. What did Christ do for the Church as her Head? He died for it. Hence, husbands must show love to their wives. The “headship” is not overlord-ship, but love unto sacrifice. The wife, in her turn, will show to the husband the devotion and love the Church does to Christ. Wives must obey their husbands as they would obey the Lord. The man is the head to which the woman’s body is united, just as Christ is the head of the Church, He, the Savior, on whom the safety of His body depends; and women must owe obedience at all points to their husbands, as the Church does to Christ. He is said to be a seducer originally created as good and whose rebellion against the divine will is reflected in the temptation that he offered to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The scene is the garden of Eden. The characters are God, the serpent, Adam, and Eve. The devil has just deceived Eve, and through her, Adam. With demonic pride in destruction, he has successfully marred God’s handiwork of creation, and dragged human beings—for whom God has a special love—into death and misery. God starts by addressing Satan, telling him he is going to eat dirt for the rest of his days. Then he reveals something that makes Satan cringe in horror—his ultimate defeat will come at the hands of a woman. God said ” I will establish a feud between thee and the woman, between thy offspring and hers; she is to crush thy head, while thou dost lie in ambush at her heels” Satan is a master theologian. He’s talked to God, interacted with God, believes in God’s existence, and knows more about God’s attributes and abilities than most…and yet Satan doesn’t love God.  Very few people believe in the devil these days,” stated Fulton Sheen in 1958, “which suits the devil very well. Do not be deceived. Satan is real and we must resist him, strong in our faith. However, do not be so terrified that you forget that God, His angels, and the grace He bestows on us are more powerful and that God limits what demons can do. Trust God; call to Him; frequently recite the 91st Psalm. Be sober and watchful and stay distant from the once-glorious fallen angels we rightly call demons. Let us ask St. Michael, the Archangel for protection St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.Amen. Cardinal Sarah: We are Tempted To Build A Human Church! But The Church Is Not Ours!

But The Church Is Not Ours! By Bella Francis Some Cardinal Robert Sarah quotes from his books: – God or nothing– The Power of Silence– The day is now far spent– From the depths of our hearts Some people would like the Church to be transformed after the model of modern democracies. In it the government would be entrusted to the majority. But that would amount to making the Church a human society and not the family founded by God. In large sectors of the Church, we have lost the sense of God’s objectivity. Each individual starts from his subjective experience and creates for himself a religion that suits him. In order to accomplish her true task adequately, the Church must constantly renew the effort to detach herself from her tendency towards worldliness and once again to become open towards God. The silence of the crib, the silence of Nazareth, the silence of the Cross, and the silence of the sealed tomb are one. The silences of Jesus are silences of poverty, humility, self-sacrifice, and abasement; it is the bottomless abyss of his kenosis, his self-emptying (Phil 2:7). In his encyclical Deus caritas est, Benedict XVI correctly recalls that “Christian charitable activity must be independent of parties and ideologies. It is not a means of changing the world ideologically, and it is not at the service of worldly stratagems, but it is a way of making present here and now the love which man always needs” (DCE 31). And the source of this love is God himself. We must reflect theologically on charity so as to prevent Catholic charitable agencies from falling into secularism. The nature of the Church is in the love of God, and the charity of the Church is in the first place the charity of God. The modern world and even some clerics, inebriated by their feeling of power, often think that cloistered monks and nuns serve no purpose. Ultimately, that is the noblest compliment we can offer the contemplatives who have withdrawn behind the high walls of their cloisters; they serve nothing in particular here below, but simply God alone. This is the simple, beautiful secret of their prayers, which support the whole world. There is a sort of glory of silence. Saint Ignatius of Loyola did not hesitate to write in his Spiritual Exercises: “The more the soul is in solitude and seclusion, the more fit it renders itself to approach and be united with its Creator and Lord. The combat against evil plays out over time, and it is important to persevere and not to lose hope. God is fashioning hearts, and evil never has the last word. In the darkest night, God works in silence. In large sectors of the Church, we have lost the sense of God’s objectivity. Each individual starts from his subjective experience and creates for himself a religion that suits him. Let us look at the hands of the Crucified. Our hands, like his, must be pierced so as to keep and to hold nothing greedily. Our heart, like his, must be open so that everyone finds welcome and refuge there… let us look at the Cross. It is the only book that will give us the true meaning of it… Only the Cross will teach us to ‘love to the end. Europe’s Chastisement is Deepening – Fr. Mark Goring

Mark Goring Here are five facts about Catholics in Europe: 1. Europe was once home to most of the world’s Catholics, but that is no longer the case. In 1910, 65% of all Catholics lived on the continent. But a century later, in 2010, the share of the world’s Catholics living in Europe dropped to 24%. Latin America now hosts more Catholics (39%) than Europe or any other region, with sizable shares also in sub-Saharan Africa (16%) and the Asia-Pacific region (12%). 2.The European countries with the largest shares of Catholics are mostly located in southern and central Europe. For example, at least three-quarters of adults in Poland (87%), Italy (78%) and Portugal (77%) identify as Catholic, as well as majorities in Spain (60%) and Hungary (56%). But there are exceptions to this pattern: Ireland is 72% Catholic, and 75% of Lithuanians are Catholic. There are also sizable Catholic populations scattered throughout the rest of the continent, including in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands (19% each), as well as Ukraine (10%). (Most Ukrainian Catholics identify with the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, an Eastern Rite church that adheres to some traditions of Orthodox Christianity but is in full communion with the Vatican.) 3. Catholics in Central and Eastern European countries are significantly more religious than those in Western Europe. Catholics in Central and Eastern Europe are more likely to say they attend church monthly (median of 44% vs. 33%), pray daily (36% vs. 13%), consider religion very important in their lives (31% vs. 13%), and believe in God (91% vs. 80%). A majority of Catholics in Ukraine (56%) say they pray at least once a day, while roughly one-in-ten in France (9%) say the same. This East-West split among Catholics mirrors a larger regional dynamic: Overall, across the continent, people in Central and Eastern European countries, regardless of their affiliation, tend to be more religious than people in Western Europe. 4. Catholics in Central and Eastern Europe tend to be more socially conservative than those in the West. In every Western European country with enough Catholics in the survey for analysis, majorities of Catholics support legal gay marriage, including overwhelming shares in the Netherlands (92%) and Belgium (83%). By contrast, most Catholics in Central and Eastern Europe oppose gay marriage, including nine-in-ten in Ukraine and Bosnia. Catholics in Central and Eastern Europe are more likely to favor legal abortion than same-sex marriage, but support for legal abortion is still substantially lower than among Catholics in Western Europe (median of 47% vs. 71%). 5. Catholics in Western Europe are more accepting of Muslims than those in other European countries. At least half of Catholics in most Western European countries say they would be willing to accept a Muslim as a family member. For instance, 69% of Spanish Catholics and 57% in Switzerland say they would accept a Muslim into their family. By contrast, far fewer Catholics across Central and Eastern Europe say they would accept a Muslim as a member of their family, including 21% in Hungary and 15% in Latvia. Once again, the regional differences in Catholic attitudes toward Muslims reflect a wider East-West split in Europe. He was one of the seven deacons in the city of Rome, i.e. responsible for the finances and social work of the Church of Rome. According to tradition, when the Roman bishop Sixtus II was arrested and beheaded under the persecutor of Christians, Emperor Valerian (200-260), his deacon Laurentius was distraught that he was not deemedworthy to share this death. Sixtus comforted him with the promise that he would follow him in three days and commissioned him to distribute the church treasury to the suffering and poor. Emperor Valerian laid claim to these treasures. Laurentius asked for three days to think it over and during this time he distributed the Church’s wealth to the poor.  The enraged Valerian had Laurentius tortured and finally ordered him to be slowly martyred to death over a fire on a grate. Even in this terrible torture, he kept his sense of humour and teased the executioner to turn him over on the fire, because the roast was already cooked on one side. Laurentius is one of the most venerated saints of the Church and was given almost the importance of Peter and Paul.  The church of S. Lorenzo fuori le Mura ( meaning outside the walls) was built over his grave in 330 by Emperor Constantine (285-337) and is one of 5 minor papal basilicas. It is also one of the 7 pilgrim churches in Rome.    There are some 30 churches in Rome named after St. His commemoration day is the day of his death 10 August. At this time in the annual vegetation cycle, the phase of grape ripening begins. The winegrowers offer their first grapes to him on this day. The St. Laurent variety is also named after him. Shooting stars on August nights are called “Laurentius tears”. Subscribe for our FREE Newsletter Submit You have been successfully Subscribed! Ops! Something went wrong, please try again.
